TopicPersonalize your welcome to visitors based on the site they arrived fromID #100

Introduction

Content sites use many social media outlets to showcase their stories and articles. Welcoming users based on the site they came from is a great way to begin personalizing a user’s experience on your site. This technique can be used in unison with an email capture, which may increase the likelihood that a user will submit their email.

Example

An individual on Pinterest is interested in a piece of content so she clicks on the article and lands on your site. As she does, greet her with a welcome message - referencing the site she just came from - and invite her to sign up for your email newsletter. And offer a free PDF download as an additional incentive.

Segment

This beginner-level campaign is triggered based on a segment of users who came through Pinterest and who have not registered for your email newsletter. Visitors will only be added to this segment if they have not performed the action ‘Email_Submit’ before.

Measure

Since the objective of the campaign is to encourage a visitor to provide his or email address, success is measured by how many people successfully added this information to the campaign.

Process

Here is a checklist of what you need to do in Evergage to create this play on your own site:

  1. Create a segment of users who came through Pinterest and who have not registered for your email newsletter
  2. Create a campaign with a popup message on your homepage or landing page
  3. Add campaign rules to limit the visibility of this message to members of the segment so only visitors who came to your site from Pinterest will see the message
