Interaction Studio (formerly Evergage) is now known as Marketing Cloud Personalization. The new name reflects our mission and vision for innovation in Salesforce Marketing Cloud. We wish we could snap our fingers to update the name everywhere, but you can expect to see the previous name in various places until we replace it.

You create web campaigns from pre-built templates in your dataset. The templates make it easy to build out campaigns because the campaign placement, copy and creative locations, and general campaign design are already defined in the template.


Your dataset must be on beacon version 16 or greater and you must have campaign author or higher permissions to perform the actions outlined in this article.

Log into Interaction Studio

  1. Navigate to your website
  2. Enable the Salesforce Interactions SDK Launcher Chrome Extension, entering the account and dataset configured for the site, if not autofilled
  3. Enter your login credentials (ask your account administrator if you are not sure):
    1. Your Marketing Cloud username and password if your account was provisioned through Marketing Cloud and this is how you typically access Interaction Studio
    2. Your Interaction Studio username and password if your account was provisioned through Interaction Studio

Create a Campaign from the Campaign Editor

  1. Click Campaigns > New Campaign to create a campaign 
  2. A new campaign will open without a template applied
  3. Click New Campaign to add a name for your a campaign
  4. Follow the instructions in Apply a Template below to add a template you can customize

Apply a Template

Once you have created a new campaign and added a name for the campaign, it's time to apply a template to give the campaign copy and creative. Campaign templates can be simple or complex depending on your company's goals and objectives. 

  1. At the left, under Experience 1, click Add Template
  2. In the Select Template window, select the template you want to apply to your campaign
  3. This example will show a simple Exit Intent campaign template
  4. Once selected, the template will appear under Experience 1
  5. The content zone targeted by this campaign will display at the bottom. For example, the Exit Intent message may target the "Global_popup" content zone, which is defined in the sitemap for the website

Create a Campaign from the Templates List

  1. Click Templates > View List to see all available templates
  2. From the Templates window:
    1. On the Templates tab
      1. View templates that are unique to your Interaction Studio dataset
      2. Enter a partial template name in Search to find templates in your Interaction Studio dataset
      3. Click Campaign from Template to create a new campaign from a published template
      4. A new campaign will open with the selected template applied
    2. On the Global Templates tab
      1. View Interaction Studio Global Templates, which are stock templates that must be cloned and customized before they can be used
      2. Click Clone Global Template to clone a template you can have a developer customize for your site

Create a Campaign from Content Zones

Content zones are areas of your site that are eligible for customization. They are defined by a developer in the sitemap for your site.

  1. Click Content Zones
  2. Areas surrounded by a dotted line are defined content zones
  3. Hover over a content zone for options
    1. The name of the content zone is listed first
    2. Click </> to see available templates for the selected content zone. Click + CAMPAIGN FROM TEMPLATE to create a new campaign
    3. Click the double speech bubble icon to see campaigns associated with this content zone. Click EDIT CAMPAIGN to edit an existing campaign created for the selected content zone
  4. In the image below, the content zone is named Banner Heading and there are 14 templates available to use with it and 177 existing campaigns that reference the content zone

Configure the Campaign

Once you have created a campaign, you need to determine the campaign type, add any targeting rules needed, select a template if you haven't already, and create additional experiences as needed.

Select the Campaign Type

There are two campaign types. A/B Test campaigns split traffic randomly into different groups based on percentages you define. Each group sees a different campaign experience. Rule Based Test campaigns follow the rules you define to determine which experience to show to each visitor. For example, using a rule-based test, you could target a segment of visitors who had not been to your site in 30 days and show them experience 1, then show experience 2 to visitors who had been to your site in the last 24 hours.

  1. The default campaign type is A/B Test
  2. Click > next to A/B Test 
  3. Toggle between A/B Test and Rule Based Test to change the type
  4. See sections below for more information on each campaign type

A/B Test

A/B testing, in its true definition, is a form of statistical hypothesis testing with two variants: test and control. Within Interaction Studio, A/B testing more broadly defines any campaign that uses a randomized split in the traffic to test a hypothesis. For more information on A/B Testing, refer to A/B Test a Web Campaign.

  1. Use the sliders or enter a percentage for each experience and Control
  2. Click to clone an experience
  3. Click < to close the Campaign Type slide out

Rule Based Test

A rule based test splits traffic based on specific rules you configure. When visitors match the rules, they qualify for the campaign experience. For example, you could create a campaign with two experiences, one for new visitors and one for returning visitors. Or you could create different experiences for visitors arriving from different regions with a rule that will detect the geolocation of each one. For more information on rule-based testing, please refer to Use Targeting Rules for Web Campaigns.

  1. Add a Control percentage which will apply to qualified visitors. This means that of the visitors who met the qualification criteria for the campaign and experiences, the percentage set in this field will be in the control group and will not see any campaign experiences
  2. Click +Add Rule to add a qualification rule for an experience. Rules are specific to the experience. For more information, please see Use Targeting Rules for Web Campaigns
  3. Click to clone an experience
  4. Click < to close the Campaign Type slide out

Complete the Template Inputs

Once you have applied a template, you can configure the defined options specific to that template.

  1. Depending on the layout of the template, you will have the option to define content for the template. In this example:
    1. Background Image URL - add a hosted image URL. If the image has been uploaded to Promotions & Actions, locate the image and click  to open the image in a browser window so you can capture the URL
    2. Style - in this template, the developer has given the option for Dark on Light and Light on Dark, to give the campaign creator flexibility depending on the selected background image
    3. Header - this is the main headline for the campaign - the developer added a tip under the input field to provide clarity to the campaign creator
    4. Sub-header - this is text that is smaller and located under the main headline - the developer added a tip under the input field to provide clarity to the campaign creator
    5. CTA Text - this is the text that will go on the pre-styled CTA button
    6. Confirmation Text - this is the text that will display to the visitor after submitting an email address - the developer added a tip under the input field to provide clarity to the campaign creator
  2. Click All Experiences to return to campaign setup

Create Another Experience

If you want to deliver a different campaign experience to various groups of qualified visitors, you can create additional experiences by cloning the configured experience. Then you can make modifications to the next experience using the same template, or apply a different template as needed.

  1. Next to Experience 1, click 
  2. Click Clone and an exact copy of Experience 1 will appear on the left rail
  3. You can:
    1. Change the template - click  and select +Add Template to select another template from your library or from Global Templates. The experience will open with the new template applied so you can configure it
    2. Change or add rules - Click > next to A/B Test and see Select the Campaign Type section below for instructions
    3. Delete the experience - click  and click Delete
    4. Test the experience - click  and click Test
